Slideroll is at the easy end a slideshow creation tool, but its output is much more of the video format. Images are uploaded from your computer or imported from flickr, and added to a timeline. Each image can have Ken Burns like effects- creating a start and end point. You can add captions to each image, and also choose from collection of music from the built in library.
The free Video Creator offers a way to turn your sliderolls into MPEG video for your won medie editing or uploading to YouTube
If you pay for a Pro account, you get more features, such as the ability to generate larger videos (the free version is limited to 360x240), upload your own mp3 audio, and export options.
Slideroll is deceptive in that the final video looks simple, but it does offer a sophisticated set of editing tools. I would agree that it is more of a video tool. - cogdog Apr 6, 2011
